“Is architecture and spatial design destined to act merely as an amplifier of selfishness or as an attenuator to weaken the efficacy of selfishness and create basic dignity for those with less voice?”

Hong Kong Transitional Housing, 2021-2022

“ In Hong Kong, everything is reduced to monetary value. Buildings are compacted into "efficient" footprints solely to maximize saleable area, resulting in flats that completely lack a dedicated living room—forcing living spaces to bleed into kitchens or bedrooms. Yet, a generous empty space is precisely what provides opportunities for socializing, entertainment, and relaxation beyond the confines of a room. Hong Kong’s unique topography and dense population are merely excuses; the real culprits behind today’s sub-standard living conditions are uneven land distribution, developer hegemony, and the prioritization of market value over human life. True efficiency does not mean filling every square inch. Human life requires not only functionally optimized space, but also the breathing room of the seemingly useless void.

Solitude...
a space of solitude— a place silent, static, yet fluidly alive. To touch the orange of the sun, to brush the green of the trees, to feel the white of the clouds, and to hold the blue of the sky.
Know the difficulties you face, the constraints that bind you; but please, hold onto life—free from all constraints.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way — in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being received, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only.”

Because of Hong Kong’s steep and mountainous topography, many hillsides have been flattened to create terraced building sites. These flattened areas—our Artificial Plateaus—are connected to one another by undulating paths. Instead of attempting to backfill these plateaus to restore the original landform, this project studies and designs how architecture can cooperate with a damaged natural landscape to form a new, unified Topographic Architecture.

Recovery Garden, 2025

Recovery Garden is a water-plant filtration system in Tokyo that transforms wastewater and greywater into reclaimed water, renewable energy, and biomass for plant growth. The system integrates artificial filtration technologies with plants and microorganisms, operating as a hybrid ecological infrastructure. Grounded in a whole-systems approach, it seeks to restore and sustain urban ecosystems while advancing long-term self-sufficiency for Tokyo’s population.
Jingu Gaien is proposed as the first demonstration site, where biofiltration landscapes will reframe sanitation as a cooperative process between human systems and natural cycles. In the context of accelerating climate challenges, the project reimagines domestic water systems not as isolated utilities, but as active participants in ecological regeneration.
