In Hong Kong, everything is reduced to monetary value. Buildings are compacted into "efficient" footprints solely to maximize saleable area, resulting in flats that completely lack a dedicated living room—forcing living spaces to bleed into kitchens or bedrooms. Yet, a generous empty space is precisely what provides opportunities for socializing, entertainment, and relaxation beyond the confines of a room. Hong Kong’s unique topography and dense population are <b>merely excuses</b>; the real culprits behind today’s sub-standard living conditions are uneven land distribution, developer hegemony, and <b>the prioritization of market value over human life</b>. True efficiency does not mean filling every square inch. Human life requires not only functionally optimized space, but also the breathing room of the seemingly useless void.
